MASCH: IT'S TIME TO START WINNING AT ANFIELD

Javier Mascherano insists it's time for Liverpool to start winning again at Anfield after three successive draws on home soil in the Barclays Premier League.

With Chelsea kicking-off two hours earlier than the Reds at home to West Bromwich Albion, Mascherano believes a win is a must to keep Liverpool at the top of the Barclays Premier League.

"We know we have to improve at home," the Reds number 20 told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"If Chelsea or some of the other contenders drop points it's better for us but we can't keep relying on that.

"We need to think about our own form and to take the three points from every game we play. That is always our aim.

"It's difficult to explain why we can win away from home and not at home. We need to get our confidence back at home and a good way of doing that would be to beat Bolton."

Last month Mascherano helped Liverpool to a 2-0 win over the Trotters at the Reebok Stadium and a repeat of that would certainly be most welcome.

"That was a really good performance," said Mascherano.

"We have had many good performances away from home this season like Chelsea and Bolton.

"A lot of teams come to Anfield to defend but it's up to us to break them down. We need to find the space and a way to beat them.

"I don't like to make excuses about how difficult it is to beat teams who come just to defend because we know we have the quality to beat them.

"It is great we can play at home because were away on Boxing Day last season. The atmosphere is always really good and I'm looking forward to it."

Besides winning another Gold medal at the Olympics another big highlight of 2008 from Mascherano was being made captain of Argentina by Diego Maradona.

"That was an amazing honour for me," he said.

"Always to play for your country is the best thing you can experience and to be made captain was a great feeling and is something that I never imagined.

"I always try to give my best for the team and Diego is always fantastic with me and has been very supportive."
